![]() ![]() When the Text Bar is visible, thats a dead giveaway, but you are also on the text layer if the Sound Bar is visible or if none of the document tool bars is showing. Since graphical elements can appear on either the text or graphics layer, you need to understand what each is used for.Īs a rule of thumb, if your Graphics Bar isnt showing, youre on the text layer. The text layer and the graphics layer interact in important ways, as we will see shortly. The front and back layers are collectively referred to as the graphics layer. On the front and back layers you have a different set of tools at your disposalthe graphics tools, which enable you to create, edit, and format graphics. The tools available on the text layer enable you to enter, edit, and format text. Most of your work will be done on the text layer, which is the middle transparency by this analogy. ![]() This is a good analogy for the way Nisus Writer handles text and graphics. You can see all three, but there are some things that are in front of your main text layer and some other things behind it. You have, in essence, a document that is three layers deep. Now imagine placing another transparency in front of it, and a third behind it. Picture your document printed on a transparency. Lastly, well explore special graphical elements like movies, page graphics, tables, and equations. Then well look at how graphical objects are created (or imported) and manipulated in your document and how text and graphics interact. Well begin by discussing the different layers Nisus Writer uses to store text and graphics. Still, Ive tried to include all the important details and anticipate the most commonly-asked questions. (In Chapter 6 well look at the sound features.)ġ20 This chapter is intended to give just an overview of the graphics tools, not to be comprehensive. In this chapter, well look at the tools and features available for adding all kinds of graphical elements to your documents. If you take a look at the box Nisus Writer comes in (or choose About Nisus® Writer from the Apple menu), youll notice that its called The Powerful Document Processor. This slogan was chosen because the term word processor is inadequate to describe an application that can produce documents rich with graphics, sounds, and video as well as text. Now you can work as described above.Īnother solution is, to copy the cells(!) of another table or spreadsheet and copy these cells in the text field in your shape. The fields in table inspector are only activated, when there is at least one sign in it. Then type any character and ctrl/right-click. ![]() The other workaround was my first solution and I write down this solution here for those not having Nisus Writer Pro available and you might use any table or spreadsheet therefore.Ĭhoose any shape from a stencil in OmniGraffle (it works with connection lines too), where you can place text in it. It might work, because Nisus Wirter Pro and OmniGraffle Pro support Link Back. I hadn't tried out, whether Link Back is working too. And you will see, that those tables already have header and footer rows. Especially when you enable "resize to fit" you will get a really self-adjusting table. Of course you can change the text attributes with the text inspector as well. Now in the table inspector you have the possibility to add rows and columns, to change alignment, cell borders and cell background. To view the table inspector select a cell in the pasted table and ctrl/right-click. Best of all: in OmniGraffle there is a build-in table inspector available, which isn't mentioned at all yet. Now you have a table that easily can be modified. Now you have to copy the table, not only by selecting the table, but marking by dragging with the mouse over the table, then copying the table (with or without contents) and past the table on your canvas in OmniGraffle. You can use many attributes of Text and table Styles for transferring the table to OmniGraffle. The easiest way until now is, to create a table with Nisus Writer Pro. While looking for a solution for real table creation in OmniGraffle Pro 5.2b6 or integration an editable table I discovered the following solutions:
